My Students

I love my students and I love teaching mathematics.

I teach curious and energetic sixth grade mathematicians in Queens, NY.

My students come from ethnically and economically diverse backgrounds. In fact, we are recognized as one of the most diverse schools in the nation!

Through an authentic, project-based interdisciplinary curriculum, my students engage in learning expeditions, where they explore issues that affect their community and creating solutions as the “agents of change.”

As a teacher, my goal is to create an equitable classroom where all students see themselves as mathematicians who are capable of creating, investigating, and discovering. I invite my students to experience the world, ask questions, seek answers, and support them in understanding their community and the world’s complexities.

My Project

One of the challenges of remote learning has been engaging all students. Nearpod is an instructional platform that my co-teacher and I will be using for our math instruction. Using this tool, we will be able to create interactive and collaborative learning experiences for our students.

For example, students will be able to easily communicate their understanding and/or progress by responding to live polls, visually represent their thinking using the drawing feature and receive teacher feedback synchronously.

The monitor will serve as a second monitor for my laptop screen. It will help me see my students and lesson plan at the same time. This will benefit students because I will be able to respond more readily to my students' questions and inquiries in the Zoom chat without having to manage multiple tabs and browser screens.

Remote learning has been a challenging experience for my students and these two tools will help make their experience more enjoyable and engaging.
