Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I serve a school where over 80% of our students come from low-income families and receive free or reduced-price lunch. Approximately, 45% are African American, 45% are Hispanic, and 20% are English language learners. They come from very diverse households. They want to learn and do well even when the statistics are not in their favor.

We as a school want to provide an environment where our students want to come and learn with us.

My Project

IXL has been proven to fix learning gaps with just 15 to 30 minutes of focused work a day. I have used IXL in previous years to help with remediation, reviews, and to extend the knowledge of my fast learners. Unfortunately, the cost of IXL has prevented us from getting a license for our students.

Individualized instruction is necessary to help each and every student reach his/her full learning potential.

I teach multiple classes where the learning gaps between students is sometimes more than 2 grade levels. IXL will assist me to differentiate learning for individual student needs to help fill learning gaps, especially for my special needs students. Students can also access this program at home for more instruction as needed, and I will be using this a lot with my virtual students to give them additional practice on their math skills.
