Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Nelson Mandela believed, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world". As a teacher in a high poverty, low income, and increasing crime rate school district, I too agree with Mr. Mandela. My students face many challenges in and out of school. Despite the challenges they face daily, I am looking to ensure a fun, creative, and impactful learning experience.

My students love to dance, they love to read, and they really love to come to school.

Many of my students are being raised by family members other than their parents. Those who are fortunate to live with their parents, are living below the poverty rate. These factors may prevent them having the life experiences many of us see as "typical". My classroom has become a safe place where my students are encouraged to reach their fullest potential and grow. I may not be able to control their lives at home, however, I can control their experience at school. By providing a creative and fun learning environment, it is my hope to ensure my students reach their academic potential and much further than their present circumstances will allow them to imagine!

My Project

Being digital natives, my students are more inclined to learn digitally. It is my goal to share my love of reading with my students. Traditional books are limited, having an option of a digital library, helps my students gain more access to the wonderful world of books and literacy. These tablets will offer my students an opportunity to practice fluency and comprehension through online programs that are on their instructional reading level. Practicing reading strategies independently and in groups digitally allows them to progress as fluent readers in a way that is natural to their learning styles.

Libraries are the passport to the journey of literacy.

My classroom needs to assist my students on this journey. Having these tablets will help significantly close the gap of reading deficiency.
