My students need access to three Chromebooks and a color printer to further expand their research and be able to learn about financial literacy. The printer would facilitate those visual learners, with color organizers.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are an exceptional group of individuals that have been dealt a tough hand. They are bright individuals who strive to learn but are a disadvantage when it comes to supplies, and home environment.
Our school is a Title I school and although my students excel with what they have, I want more for them, and they want more for themselves as well.
They come from economically disadvantaged homes and most receive free lunch. Home life should not be an excuse, and its not; these kids are able to push their home issues aside and rise to what is expected of them, but some motivation to do better would come a long way.
My Project
A big part of the newer portion of the Mathematics curriculum includes Financial Literacy. This is a great addition because it exposes children to the workings of a checking account, the interest rates of a credit card and other monetary concepts of everyday adult life.
I would like students to have access three Chromebooks as part of a research project where we monitor and track the stock market and calculate profits and losses based on the trends.
We will then use the printer to print out charts and graphs based on our results and calculate needs based on the evidence.
