About My Students

My students all have a unique story that they wish to share with the world through films and cinematography in my cinema class. Sadly, our school is in one of the poorest districts and we do not have access to proper equipment to make their aspirations a reality. This project will help solve this.

Imagine that your students in school are creating a film. They’re discussing how a scene will be edited and have special effects, but within a second the idea is abandoned altogether because they realize that it’s impossible to accomplish this with awfully outdated school laptops -- the only equipment available for them. This obstacle is what limits my students from truly embracing their creativity and imagination in and out of cinema class everyday. They’ve developed this project in hopes that their unique ideas will flourish with the use of a laptop that has the necessary capabilities for editing and improving the quality of the films they wish to create.

This project will be a testament to what a group of talented students who aspire in face of obstacles can accomplish. They will know that if they persevere, nothing will be an immovable barrier -- not even poverty. This project will develop their time management, oral communication, and problem-solving skills. With editing software like Sony Vegas Pro, which the XPS 13 runs, my students will learn to communicate their ideas as a group to create their best film. They will learn to properly manage their time and solve problems since editing is a long and arduous process that consists of constant trial-and-error.

In Their Own Words

We realized the trouble of editing films when our old school laptops repeatedly shut down when using video editing software and couldn’t properly render our video clips. It’s difficult to show a film the way we originally envisioned them because we can hardly get through the editing process due to our outdated equipment. We want the opportunity to showcase our ideas about the world through clear and polished films, and that’s why we’re trying to fundraise for a better laptop to do that.

Our idea for a film has always been to highlight the importance of anger management. We have a finished script, and with a laptop like the XPS 13 we will be able to properly utilize video editing software. Our goal is to edit and polish our recorded scenes and proudly show the finished film to our community at this year’s film festival at our school!

Living in one of the poorest districts has made it a priority for us to raise awareness about our daily struggles with poverty and becoming successful in spite of bad influences. This is something that our school community can resonate with, and we want to spread this message in one of the most captivating ways for people -- through well-crafted films. This project will be one small step in the right direction for my peer’s films, but one giant leap for the message we will convey to the world.
