My second-grade students come from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds and home lives. This year, my class will make up a wide range of abilities.
In the beginning of every year, I strive to make sure my students know they are loved and important to me.
We become a class family and refer to ourselves in that way. As the weeks continue, students learn they are safe to explore and meet challenges head on. Their confidence grows, and they see that they can go farther than they thought.
Each year a new group of students enters into my heart. This year my new class family will do the same virtually, and I will strive to make sure they know they are loved and important to me.
My Project
Students are starting virtually in the fall. For the students, this means they won't know their new teacher or their peers that well. For the teacher, it means a change in thinking. A lot has to be done differently to ensure every single student feels loved, accepted, and excited about learning.
Nearpod and Flocabulary are two fun digital resources that can be used to help students have fun while forming relationships with their teacher and their peers.
Nearpod has a variety of lessons. The lessons that are geared towards social and emotional topics will be needed and just as helpful as the content lessons. Nearpod has friendly competitions, virtual reality fieldtrips, and it allows for differentiation. Nearpod reaches all learners as it can read passages aloud. Flocabulary uses educational hip-hop music to engage students and increase achievement across the curriculum. It is a great tool for students to learn vocabulary and reading concepts. The focus of Flocabulary is to teach through song. This reaches students that love learning through music. Students love these fun online learning games. Since these digital resources can be used at school or home, the students will be connected through these fun interactive games and learning tools.
