My Project

Every year it is my goal to expand on my students knowledge of nature and agriculture. These fifth graders live in and attend school in an urban area. Teaching them ways to be self sustaining and how to connect to the earth benefits them greatly.

To dig deeper, I would like to expose them to more in depth activities that may open the door to future career possibilities.

For example, using soil thermometers and learning how to test the pH of soil may lead them to an interest in agronomy. Just as growing their own food and cooking it in class may lead them to interests in becoming a farmer, food scientist, or chef.

We will also journal our activities and chart the growth of what we plant. The artists and writers will shine in this area. All students will be positively impacted.
