My Students

My students are an amazing group of high school students. My Living Environment students are completing their first year at a selective arts focused high school. Before coronavirus closed our school my students showed immense commitment to both their arts and academic education as they traveled up to 2 hours one way via public transportation and voluntarily participated in the longest public school day in our great city. Students came to school eager for the learning experiences provided by both their arts and academic classes. My students especially loved our weekly lab where we more closely examined the living world around us. We've watch cells respond to changing environments under a microscope, we dissected flowers to better understand how they reproduce, and we learned how human actions impact the living world around us.

Living in the epicenter of the covid-19 pandemic my students are proving to be a resilent and resource group as we work together to continue learning biology in the middle of an emerging outbreak.

I want to provide my students with more hands on learning opportunities they can share with their families as they continue to learn at home.

My Project

My student's favorite part of science class is lab. With these materials I can have students complete a lab at home. They can share the excitement of science as they discover animal bones and feathers in owl pellets. The can use the materials they to discover the geographic origins of each owl. They can compare and contrast the contents in each pellet to show similarities and difference between owls located in different parts of the United States.

With these kits my students can safely engage in at home science experiments with their families.

Science is about both discovery and communication. As students share their discoveries they will be participating is an authentic science experience!
