Differentiation Through Creativity and Choice

Help me give my students the materials they need to be creative while learning. 1st grade students love having markers crayons and colored pencil available to illustrate stories they have written and do complete work.

My Project

The materials I have asked for will be used by all students as they work on differentiated work at their work stations during our reading and writing block.

Each child becomes an author as they complete work at the writing station.

Children love to be able to illustrate their pictures using the medium of their choice. The markers, crayons and colored pencils I have asked for will allow each student to have the creative choice they need to take ownership in their stories.

To instill the love of reading each child in my class has a choice of books that meet their interests and their individual reading level. To manage this each child has their own book bag that they keep their books in to use at read to self and partner reading. I need to replace these bags every year.

Practice, practice and more practice is what some children need to help them understand who words can be made and changed. One of the best ways to provide this practice is using dry erase boards that they can use over and over. If each child had their own board to use at word works they take ownership in their materials and learning and it helps end the frustration of finding a ruined or damaged board or not being able to find one that another student used before them.

By providing these materials you will be helping a young child find the joy of becoming an independent reader or a budding writer.
