My Students

I teach an amazing bunch of students at a Title I school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Our school's neighborhood was recently ravaged by the historic flooding in Louisiana. Some of my students continued to come to school while staying in shelters, hotels or with friends and family, and some are still not back in a permanent home. Additionally, 100% of our students receive free lunch, already experiencing financial hardships regularly. Academically, I have an extremely diverse group of students. One is classified as gifted, but unable to receive services at our school. Several others are also reading well beyond their grade level. Four speak English as their second language, one is developmentally delayed, and several have limited or no access to books or computers at home. They are the kindest, funnest, most outgoing group of little humans I have ever had the pleasure of knowing!

My Project

These materials will allow me to plan, organize, and effectively deliver high quality differentiated instruction to my academically diverse students. I will be able to quickly organize activities for students who need review and for those who need to be challenged further. The color coded bins will then allow students to independently choose an enrichment or review activity, without having to interrupt small group instruction. I have several students who desperately need to be more challenged in their daily activities, and this will go a long way to ensure they always know exactly what to do when they complete an activity. My students with fine motor deficits will also know exactly which color bin to select their skills practice from. Each of my centers is currently piled with these papers, not to mention my desk and bookshelf. The tabletop dry erase easel will allow my small group students to clearly watch me demonstrate different standards, from math prectices to sentence writing to creating graphic organizers. Currently I have to use the IWB for these activities. I would prefer to be able to allow a different group of students to be using the IWB at this time for interactive learning. This could totally change the way my classroom runs!
