My Students

I teach in a suburban school in a district with school choice. While some of my students come from middle-class families, many of them live in impoverished neighborhoods with little access to the tools they need to be successful in the classroom. While the district has worked to give them devices, I need the tools to be able to differentiate digital content to best support their remote learning.

Teaching students to collaborate is one of the key components of my classroom.

Students are encouraged to work together to investigate texts and craft various genres of writing. Creativity is encouraged and my students love to demonstrate their understanding in many ways --when they have the supplies to do so.

My Project

My district has worked tirelessly to ensure that students have devices and hotspots so they can attend our virtual classes. The synchronous instruction is challenging when I don't have a white board to jot ideas on or immediate access to my English Language Learners and struggling readers.

Having access to digital tools that allow me to differentiate for each group of student needs will allow me to allay their frustration and better meet their needs.

With our Teacher Assistants, English Language Learner support staff and Exceptional Children teachers trying to also meet needs remotely, being able to differentiate digitally and interact with the resources will best support my students!

For example, Nearpod would allow me to provide students access to part of my lesson in the student's native language, or to adjust the Lexile reading level of an article to meet the needs of a struggling reader. I could also provide an EC or ELL teachers with access to a Nearpod lesson for editing and further modification. Having the Apple pen to use with the iPad already provided would allow me to have a white board to demonstrate language lessons or provide minute-by-minute notes of our discussion.
