This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When I was in school I loved reading the same books as my friends so we could discuss and share ideas together. However, books are expensive and not available at my school for groups. My students would benefit with books based on their abilities and interest.

My students are amazing!

They are enthusiastic about learning and keep me motivated. Everyday they work hard with outdated materials and plenty of patience. I love the independence of 5th graders with a touch of needed love. They inspire many by being a team. I have never seen a class cheer each other on more. Their imaginations and stories make me smile.

My Project

Imagine reading something that you don't understand? Or something that should take a week, takes you an hour to complete? My students deserve to learn at their own pace, facing their own challenges without being lost or bored. My students need books for literary groups. They need to be at a variety of levels to meet everyone's needs. They will learn how to interpret characters, settings, and story lines. They can debate different issues the characters face, identify plot, and have an appreciation of reading. I want to be able to divide my class into small groups and work with their needs on a personal level, while they assist each other.

These books will allow students to read at their level, share ideas with their peers and hopefully become lifelong readers.

Using textbooks that are 20 years old is difficult to create excitement, especially in reluctant readers. Please help create passionate readers!
