Differentiated Materials for Students with Disabilities!
My students need dry erase boards, book bags and organizational boxes to help them learn through differentiated learning centers. My students need new name tags and a timer to help with group organization.
My goal, as a teacher, is to provide the best learning environment for my students. My school is very supportive in all that I do, but does not have the funds to get new supplies for the students. These students, who come from a high-poverty area, come to school to learn new things and have experiences that they might not be able to at home.
I work with students with Emotional Disabilities at a District 75 school in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
I am so fortunate to have such a great group of students. Although my students face their own challenges everyday, they never fail to try their best in any situation.
My Project
The materials that are requested for this project would help my students significantly grow through the use of differentiated learning centers. My students will be able to use these materials to find the best way for them to learn.
When working with students with disabilities, it is so important to recognize that all students learn differently.
In our classroom, we use differentiated learning centers, so all students can work on their own pace, on materials that are created just for them. By providing different learning centers, every student will be given the opportunity to work on their level material, while doing something that they are good at.
With these donations, we will be able to make tremendous changes to our cooperative learning groups. With the use of new book bags and organization boxes, my students will be able to have all the necessary materials for when they change to a new center. With the use of name tags and a new classroom timer, my students will have a clear idea where they should be and when they should get there. Using dry erase boards, during group work, cuts down on notebook use and gets the activities completed faster. These are all very important parts of working in small cooperative groups during rotating center time.
