My Students

As a class that truly represents Brooklyn, my students are from a mix of cultures. Not only that, but my families chose to enroll their children in a dual language program. They are all committed to being bilingual and bi-literate in Spanish and English (some of them speak other languages as well).

My students are enthusiastic, curious, caring, and truly delightful!

They check in with each other and treat each other with respect. Each day, they come to school ready to learn.

My Project

Given the diverse learners in my classroom, it is no surprise that we have different seating needs. Some kids work best when they have a traditional chair that allows them to sit still while they work. Other kids need to have room to sit crosslegged as they work on the classroom rug. Still others, need a seat that accommodates their need to move and wiggle.

Lots of 3rd grade kids are chock full of physical energy and these wobble chairs allow them to channel that energy as they learn.

This year, a friend loaned me 4 wobble chairs and the 4 students who chose to use them absolutely love them. The change in their level of interest and focus has been striking. One of my most hesitant readers now has his nose and brain fully immersed in books during reading time.

Who knew a wobble chair could have such a major impact? These chairs allow my kids to move and wiggle constantly, without disrupting the learning of the other students in the class. Their brains are now freed up to delve into other worlds through literature, explore meaty math problems, create Chinese art, and engage in other amazing learning activities.

Unfortunately, I need to return my friend's wobble chairs and I know they will be missed. Now that I have seen the impact of these wobble chairs on my students' learning, I can't wait for us to have our very own!
