My Students

The students I will be teaching this year range in age from 5-11. Like all children, they love to move, sing, dance and create. They yearn to learn about music and make personal connections to it in their own lives.

The work of children is play.

- Carl Orff

I believe this is true and we see it every day. Children learn how to cooperate, care, lead, follow, and be the best person they can be every time they play with others.

My Project

To understand tolerance, students need to take risks and understand the importance of being yourself and accepting others. Using the wrist ribbons, we will glide, hop, swoop, and experience rhythms from around the world. The wrist ribbons free the dancer to focus on the ribbons instead of themselves. It allows for even the shyest students to experience the joy of free-form dance. It helps make the experience safe.

When learners feel safe and confident, they realize the importance of being themselves and the tolerance of others who might seem different than themselves.

We will use the songs and rhythms as well as the stories from other countries to help us understand the struggles of others and how we all have the same basic needs in life. We will focus our love of dance and songs to enhance our understanding of the importance and act of tolerance. What it looks like. What it doesn't look like. What it feels like. What it doesn't feel like.

Our young learners are soaking up everything they hear around them. Help me bring them the words and feelings of tolerance, love and caring of others.
