My Students

More often than not we seek out opportunities to have the greatest impact possible. When it comes to our world, having a low impact is a high priority for preserving its future. Please partner with us in promoting our movement to make a low impact.

My students are a phenomenal group of young people.

They are intriguing, intelligent, wise, witty, and affable individuals with an affinity for arduous work. While the aforementioned superlatives are rarely assigned to middle school students in the impoverished region of Georgia that my students call home, these attributes accurately describe my young scholars. School wide, our students face a seemingly overwhelming economic challenge which is evidenced by the fact that over 95% of our population receives free or reduced lunch. My students have had an inconsistent history of success in science as measured by the state's standardized test. My scholars are determined to ensure that the predicaments of their past and present won't foretell their future. This year they are poised to change the course of their scholastic and economic history by committing to close the gap between their academic potential and their academic output.

My Project

In my science class our scholars are challenged to make earth day everyday. As we learn about the biological threads that weave life on earth, we also consider the forces that are contributing to unravel them. With the materials that we intend to receive for our project, our scholars will take advantage of the opportunity to combat the forces that are putting our planet in peril. We will lower our impact by recycling plastic bottles which are generated from carbon emitting fossil fuels. We will use the chicken wire to construct a compost bin which will lower our impact on landfill waste. We will lower our consumption of municipal water by using our rain barrel to capture rainwater which would otherwise become ground water. Our captured water will be used to hydrate our herb and vegetable gardens which will usher in a movement to consume local low impact produce.

My young scholars are rarely given opportunities to take what they learn and use it to change their world.

By parntering with us on this project you will not only support service based learning, you will also lend a hand in providing our future leaders with something they are rarely asked to do. You will give them a chance to lead.
