My Students

I teach students in the 8th to 12th grade with a range of cognitive, physical, and emotional disabilities in the junior high and high school self-contained classroom. With the help of the high school counselor and my paraprofessionals, we strive to teach our students functional and life skills that will transition over to their own personal life and work after high school.

It takes a collaborative approach to meet all of the needs of each student in my class.

Several of my students want to play football on the professional level when they grow up, so we work closely with the football staff to find jobs that are meaningful and helpful to all in order not to crush their dreams.

All of my students participate in various activities and subjects but learn best by hands-on experiences. They love creating new ideas, products, and trying out experiments we normally find on the internet. They also love interacting with their peers and being included in school wide activities or events.

My Project

This year and last's has brought on many new challenges that as teachers we were often not prepared for. Students are now back on campus this year and often struggling with just trying to get back into the routine of school, work, and personal care.

Personal care seems to be the biggest struggle right now or the lack of knowledge of how to properly take care of yourself.

I have created personal care kits for the students in my classroom bathroom in case they might need something at home or a way to freshen up before class. By adding soap to their kits it will allow better hygiene at home and in class for better learning.
