My Students

My 8th grade math class is a diverse and curious group of students from New York City, many hailing from Harlem and the Bronx. These students have such unique and vibrant personalities -- funny, confident, kind, etc.

My students are a passionate and eclectic mix, who care deeply about their schoolwork and always strive to do well.

Though many of my students find school to be especially challenging, I deeply admire their work ethic and perseverance -- refusing to ever give up.

Students will often sit in my classroom during their lunch period, in lieu of recess with their friends, to catch up on work or talk about whatever may be weighing heavy on their mind that day. As well, I am always impressed to see how compassionate these students are with one another, as it seems to come naturally to them to provide support and empathy.

My Project

One of the most important tools that advanced math students need is a calculator. For my pre-Algebra course, skillful use of a scientific calculator can make all the difference. In my class, students learn about exponent rules, scientific notation, and how to solve multi-step equations.

The TI-34 Multiview calculator includes a number of advanced features that will promote student success.

Some of this calculator's unique features include: the ability to view more calculations on the screen at one time; the MathPrint function to display values in scientific notation; and easy-to-use fraction and mixed number keys.

With these calculators in hand, students will be more equipped to handle the complex tasks and master the skills required in this class.
