Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school has departmentalized the 5th grade in order to prepare the students for the transition to middle school. This school year, I have three groups of 5th graders who are very energetic and enthusiastic! Most of the students in my classes face different struggles in their home lives and at school.

Our classroom is a place where students can learn in an engaging way.

I try to make learning interactive to sustain the students' attention. During our social studies lessons we use the Smart Board, document camera, games, small groups/partner activities and take-to-your-seat center tasks. I use a variety of instructional approaches to present and review the standards.

Social studies can sometimes be a forgotten subject. However, in our classroom we give it the attention it deserves. In order to deepen students understanding they must be engaged! Support our project by helping us get these much needed games and resources.

My Project

When it comes to learning social studies in the classroom, children are apprehensive because of all the facts and lengthy reading during lessons. Therefore, in my lessons I try to engage my students with various ways to explore new content.

My goal is to help my students learn how to make well informed decisions and become great citizens of our culturally diverse society.

Providing children with games will increase interest and allow for deeper understanding. Supporting this project means you will be helping my students acquire games and resources. With these materials students will be able to use skill building games to explore U.S. history and geography. The resources boxes will promote hands-on exploration with realistic props, maps, and charts. The grab and play games will allow us to create centers in which students can work together and learn simultaneously.
