This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember how exciting it was for your teacher to bring out a brand new book? The way the new book smelled, felt, and how it cracked as your teacher opened it to begin the read aloud! The expression on my students' faces and the way their faces light up is priceless as I pull out our read aloud of the day.

They are eager, ready to engage, and find connections to the new characters they will soon get to know.

I would love to add a social emotional section to our classroom library to support with my students' social emotional development. Read-alouds with stories and characters my students are able to make connections with.

My Project

These books will enhance our classroom library and add a section that is crucial for my students social emotional development. Our focus is using read-alouds to address various social emotional skills my students are in great need to develop. They love and are able to connect with characters who are dealing with the same situations they are, as well as feel validated and safe to share their experiences with their peers.

With the addition of these new books to our classroom library, my students will have a variety of books that focus on different social emotional skills (empathy, kindness, acceptance) and in return will allow them to develop and/or reinforce the social emotional skills they need.

These stories will also help build our classroom community as well as nourish their love of reading. This project will also support our first PBL (project based learning) activity which focuses on building healthy relationships with our peers.
