Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Recent city budget cuts to NYC DOE school cafeterias have left us in a hunger crisis. The lunch portions are smaller and not very appetizing to our young students. We try to supplement with a snack time later in the day but almost all of our low-income students do not bring in their own snacks from home. We would use leftovers from lunch, (pretzels, chips, fruits), to feed them snacks, but we are no longer given enough to have leftovers for a snack time.

Our students are hungry!

And on top of that, the chances of them eating healthy at home are slim, considering the high cost of healthy, organic food. We have started using our own money to buy snacks because we know how critical this age is for their brain and body development.

ALL children deserve the right to eat and be healthy, please help us provide that for our students.
