My Students

I have a diverse group of fifth grade students. Many students live in low-socioeconomic neighborhoods and read significantly below grade level. Their ability levels range from students who struggle in school due to learning disabilities, to students performing above grade level and are gifted. One common characteristic among all students is their enthusiasm for learning.

I work diligently to plan exemplary literacy lessons and activities that challenge the students, but also allow them to use their unique talents and abilities to showcase or demonstrate their depth of knowledge.

I want to motivate and inspire my students to become lifelong learners.

My Project

I work with a group of struggling readers. Many of the students have negative attitudes regarding reading due to their learning disabilities. Research proves that struggling students need a plethora of books at their fingertips on a variety of reading levels and themes. Therefore, we are requesting a set of books that will inspire the students to read on a daily basis.

Students motivation to read is directly related to academic achievement.

I have selected a set of high interest nonfiction books that my students would be interested in reading to transform negative attitudes towards reading to positive ones.
