This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are given ample opportunities to practice and develop their English language skills across subject matter. In order to perfect their language skills, they're encouraged to communicate with their classmates by collaborating on projects that promote oral and written language development.

I work in a low socio-economic area where 44% of 982 students are second language learners.

In my classroom, over 50% are second language learners. My school goes above and beyond to provide our students with high-quality instruction, but it's difficult to provide them with 21st-century skills when lack of funding impedes their access to technology. My students are very enthusiastic about acquiring new knowledge. Using the iPads to enhance their learning will only enrich their educational experience. They often get excited when we have the opportunity to use technology in the computer lab. Unfortunately, we are only allotted 50 minutes per week.

My Project

My students will have the opportunity to work with the iPads in pairs to utilize different applications that address language acquisition. They will rotate 10-15 minutes during independent work time so each student gets an opportunity to use the engaging learning devices.

This project will improve my classroom by empowering students to use technology in order to make academic gains.

It will help close the achievement gap for these students who are marginalized and will make a positive impact in their future.
