My Students

My kids are incredibly energetic and full of wonderful ideas. JFK said: "Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity." I would like my students to be in better physical shape by the end of 6th grade.

There are 14 girls and 10 boys in my classroom ranging in age from 10 to 12.

Our school is situated in a neighborhood dominated by 100 year old buildings that have all single apartments where entire families live. There are few parks and it is not safe for the children to play outside their homes. My students are sweet, full of pep and eager to learn.

My Project

My students as well as the rest of 6th grade (76 students in all) will use this physical education equipment to develop skills in soccer and volleyball. The students must participate in 100 minutes of P.E. every week. Right now we are playing with a ratty soccer ball and bean bags instead of goals. Our only volleyball went missing two weeks ago and we are now playing volleyball with a red rubber ball that stings when you serve or hit. The wrist bands are so that the server can serve without the ball stinging their wrist. I will be able to teach basic skills in soccer and volleyball. Additionally, the students will be able to run drills since we will have more than one soccer and volleyball.

My students will be in better shape and by being in better shape they will have more self-confidence.

They are all tweens and very concerned about their bodily appearance. Being in better shape will give them more confidence and help them break out of their shells. Having more self-confidence will help them in all aspects of their life including being better public speakers and leaders of learning groups.
