My Students

My students are looking for engagement as we struggle to maintain their attention throughout lessons. They desperately need sensory toys to help anxiety and aid their learning.

I teach kindergarten students who have Autism.

They are high sensory needs children who are beginning to adapt to a classroom environment for the first time. They are still learning school routines. We are in a specialized district that focuses on students with various disabilities. I teach the same 11 students everyday for every period. Because of sensory needs, these students need to be highly engaged so interactive activities would benefit them tremendously. It's so important for this population to have sensory toys.

My Project

I requested sensory items that could be combined with interactive academic lessons. The sand will act as a sensory tool while the Sift and Find alphabet shells will assist in letter recognition. Some of my students are at a higher academic level in math, and I would like to challenge them by introducing addition in a way that would engage them, which is why I requested the Pop and Add games.

This project will provide a huge impact in my classroom and will allow us to provide our students with the necessary tools to help them become successful in school.

It will help with reducing anxiety and frustration and in turn increasing their academic success and willingness to take risks within a general education classroom. Our centers are extremely bare due to budget cuts and it would mean a lot to our students who come from low income families.
