This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Technology is a natural resource for children today. It is unfortunate that we do not have it to give to them. We produce an amazing school newspaper, but the technology needed for proficiency is unavailable. My students are craving the tools necessary for their success.

My students do not have computers, tablets or cell phones at home.

In fact, they do not have much of anything at home. We are socially and economically deprived. We are trying to change that. My students do know what life is like outside of their town. They have to learn about the world through research and videos. We need technology to take us there. Our district does not have the resources. The resources they do have go to the older kids. With a student body of 550 second and third graders, we have approximately 85% percent of our students receiving free or reduced lunch. We are a Title I school with limited funding. Most of our students go home to parents working two or three jobs a day. They are children in need!

My Project

My reporters will use these materials to produce outstanding, high level news articles for their fellow students and the staff. They will use them in "the field" to record events such as assemblies, PBIS rewards and other big events. They can work from their classrooms and provide elaborate and exciting pieces. The Chromebooks will be for Google Apps for Education, creating a bridge from school to home. Students will learn to use GAFE and have the ability to work from home and retrieve the work they did on the Chromebook. The tablets are mobile and can be used for photos and recording video as much as typing and using GAFE. There materials will bring them up to date with the time.

My students do not have many occasions where they feel special.

This gift will make them feel not only special, but important. It will boost their confidence and provide hope in the lives of otherwise lonely children. This will show them that their teacher as well as many other adults do care what they have to say. Their voices will matter and be heard. What better gift can you give a student? This will brighten our lives!
