My Project

After a seven year hiatus in other content areas, this year I have returned back to teaching reluctant readers to love books, and I couldn't be more excited about it. While my students are hardworking and have a strong desire to learn, they come from diverse backgrounds, and many of them need additional supports, high-interest texts to read, and a teacher with a boat-load of enthusiasm.

I teach students of all different academic levels, from special education to gifted and talented, students with learning disabilities, and others who speak little to no English, and my students are in desperate need of dictionaries.

The meager collection that we have are falling apart and are geared towards elementary students. Often, my students go to look up words, and they are nowhere to be found. This collection of intermediate dictionaries would greatly help my students practice dictionary skills. It will help them gain independence by being able to discover what words mean without having to rely on someone else to tell them. Also, being from Texas, we have a large population of English as a Second Language students. English/Spanish dictionaries, picture dictionaries, and idiom dictionaries are vital to our ESL students' language development. This collection of dictionaries would make a huge difference to my students.
