My Students

My students are full of life and have a desire for learning. I have never met students with more personality or tenacity. This group has really changed my perspective on life in such a wonderful way. I have found joy in the little things because I have seen how they have joy in the little things despite some of their lifestyles. They are really a special group of students.

This group of children has really impressed upon my heart the need for family and a community that rallies behind them.

It has been so wonderful to see the support throughout the year, but it never seems like enough. I have seen children come to school with shoes three sizes too small because their parents can't afford new shoes. I have known children to go hungry over a weekend because their parents can barely afford to put food on the table. While the school staff, including me, has tried to meet the needs of these children, they are still in need of so much more!

My Project

This year is the first time the students in my district will be back in person, and with that comes a lot of worry. There is worry about our students' physical health as well as concern about their ability to be kids and socialize with their classmates.

Students have been home for over 18 months, and this will be their first chance to come back into a classroom and collaborate with their classmates and teacher.

Keeping students safe is my number one priority, and, even with social distancing, I want to put in place every precaution to keep them healthy and safe. I want dividers between desks so that students can collaborate and be together in groups but still remain safe.

I have 25 students this year, and spreading them all around the room has made my cozy, homey elementary classroom feel more like a lecture hall. I want to bring some sense of normalcy to these kiddos for the year while ensuring their safety.

Please help me give my sweet babies the opportunity to be social with their classmates without sacrificing safety!
