Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students have Autism and Intellectual Disabilities. They are highly motivated by activities that are hands on. Our goal is to prepare my students for the future with employment and high school. Through the business, they are working on skills needed to obtain employment.

The blenders, mini refrigerator, knives, cups and strainers will help my students create their smoothy business throughout the school.

The main goal is to teach my students with Autism what it is like to have a job in the community. We will be fundraising to obtain the fruits and vegetables needed to purchase for the smoothies. We will be making the smoothies per order amongst the staff members during Unique Skills. I would email the teachers about the business, take orders as they come and have the students make and deliver the smoothies to the appropriate classroom. The adults in the classroom will be physically prompting and assisting the students.

This project will make an impact on their confidence, self-esteem and preparedness for the high school programs with students with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities. Their comprehension skills should improve as well and the ability to follow multi-step directions. My students are special in every way. They look up to my staff and myself for guidance. They are very innocent, sweet and I feel that this could make a huge difference in their lives overall.
