I teach AP US History and AP World History to amazing and inspiring 11th and 12th grade students.
At FCS, our mission is to provide a college-preparatory learning experience with a focus on individual freedom, critical thinking, and problem-solving in an environment that emphasizes the values of community, teamwork, and nonviolence.
Our students, mostly from Wilmington and surrounding areas, can and do achieve at high levels. Most aspire to go to college and we do everything we can to help them succeed there and in the future.
With all of our teaching and learning fully virtual, this project will give me the resources to give students a truly full experience while learning online. Technology is a barrier in great teaching online, and these materials will help ensure that I am able to give students the experience they deserve.
Every day, our students spend about three hours learning through Zoom at FCS.
Further, I spend many more hours preparing high-quality materials and plans to deliver these lessons. While virtual learning is no replacement for in-person learning, these additional resources will help me by making it easier to deliver and prepare great lessons.
The iPad and Apple pen will make it easier for me to do both math and science equations, as well as take notes and annotate historical text. The monitor allows for a larger screen and will be used as a dual-monitor to make it easier to use multiple applications at the same time. As a teacher, I often have more than four tabs or applications open, like Zoom, attendance, Google Classroom, and my PowerPoint presentation. To create some joy in this difficult time, I will raffle off the Airpods so students can use them to listen and participate during live synchronous classes!
