This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach K-5 at a high SES school. Many of my students have not had a lot of exposure to art or had the chance to experiment with their own art supplies at home. My high poverty students get so much out of art and having the safe opportunity to express themselves. It is wonderful to see the students take pride in their work and learn to work together and support each other. Our emphasis is the process over the end result and I feel privileged to be bringing these children wonderful projects.
My Project
I am seeking an annual membership in the Deep Space Sparklers Club. Membership is made available twice a year and they offer lesson plans and training videos for art teachers. The program has a great reputation according to other teachers.
This will help with my lesson planning and teaching techniques.
These projects have been time-tested and they are very successful in teaching students about art history and the techniques of making art.
I am new to art after teaching in the general education classroom for many years, and I believe this would help jump start my effectiveness with my students.
