This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, I know the challenges my students face both in and out of the classroom every day.

As a teacher in a school with the highest number of bilingual learners in our school district, I also know that dance helps our students communicate beyond words.

For the past several years, my students have not had any performing arts education- no dance, no instrumental music, no choir, no theater.

For students that will not experience these classes outside of school, this is unacceptable. I have been working with all of my students to grow them as both artists and citizens. Through dance, they are given the opportunity to create, perform, respond, and connect dance to their everyday lives in order for personal growth.

Dance education in our school is vital - it gives my students a space to create, express, and explore their personal interests. With your help, my students will be able to experience and thrive through a quality performing arts education.

My Project

This past school year, my dance students have engaged in numerous dance performances in and around our school community. Instead of just having a dance ensemble, I have decided to create a Dance Team to let students further pursue their passions. This team will compete in dance within and around our Newark community and these donations would help the dance team properly train and prepare for their upcoming events.

Providing students with basic dance necessities will ensure their success in dance education and beyond.

In this project, I am asking for stretch bands so that my students can train like professional dancers. I am also asking for dance shorts and tulle so that we can make costumes for our coming performances. These students deserve to train and look like the talented artists that they are. Investing in these students will encourage them to pursue their passion for dance for years to come.
