Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a NYC Social Studies teacher, I've connected with exceptional young people with a strong desire to make sense of the world around them. My students crave opportunities to experiment with information presented through text and multimedia in a way that challenges them to make personal connections to what they first perceive as "dead history". It is one of my greatest joys to see how project-based responses to the essential questions they pose develop a greater understanding of how similar to the people of our past and more important, how the students are called to action.

As a result of their investigations and new understandings of history and current events, I've witness the answers to their questions and how they view themselves in the world.

The gift of poetry boldly used to extend narratives and give voices to the past. Advocates for equality and progression have solidified their perspectives through storytelling, painting, videos and dance. I'd like to continue supporting them in these efforts.

My Project

The BrainPOP, Nearpod and other materials gifted to the students will help them not only gain exposure to history and current events, but additionally allow them to dig deeper in their investigations to understand purpose and impact.

These tools will be used for group and independent work to help students express their understanding through the arts.

The result will be a stronger connection to the world around them and most importantly a call to action to see the value in themselves, their communities and their world. Help us amplify learning!
