This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As an early childhood educator, my goal is to create a classroom where every child feels confident in their reading and writing abilities. Literacy is the foundation for academic success, and every student deserves access to the tools that help them thrive. I’m requesting support for essential literacy resources, including phonics games, decodable books, manipulatives, and sight word flashcards, which will significantly enhance my students’ learning experiences.

Many of my students are just beginning to develop the critical phonemic awareness and phonics skills needed for reading.

However, to build confidence, they require engaging, hands-on resources to support these skills. The items I’m requesting, such as Torlam Elkonin Boxes, phonemic awareness games, decodable readers, and sight word flashcards, will give my students opportunities for active, hands-on learning. These resources will help them break down words, understand letter sounds, and connect sounds to written words. The decodable books will reinforce these skills, while the sight word flashcards will help them become more confident in recognizing high-frequency words, supporting smoother reading.

The goal of this project is to empower my students to become confident readers by developing phonemic awareness, phonics, and word recognition skills. I also aim to foster a love of reading in my classroom, ensuring that learning to read is an enjoyable process. By providing these resources, I can offer the individualized support my students need to grow at their own pace and succeed in their reading journey.

My students are special because of their curiosity, resilience, and eagerness to learn, despite facing challenges. With the right tools, they can unlock their full potential and become the confident readers they are capable of being.
