My Students

I work with "Amazing" 1st -3rd grade students on developing their Reading skills. However, "AMAZING" only goes so far when funding is low and resources are limited. My students need hands-on materials to support their learning while they are now on learning on the school campus

My students also deserve access to materials that are fun and engaging.My students attend school in an urban school district located in South Central Los Angeles.

I want my 1st -3rd grade students to continue come to school everyday anticipating learning new and exciting information. They are kind, hardworking, and have persevered through many of the situations they live through on a daily basis. Unfortunately, poverty in our area is a constant issue that we face. Currently, more than 80 percent of the students attending our school qualify for a free or reduced lunch.

My Project

The goal of this project is to get more hands-ons literacy activities for my students. Research has shown that students can increase phonemic awareness and phonics skills with hands-on materials. Students will have fun while learning, develop phonemic awareness, decoding and blending skills and and will become readers.

My students will be able to master CVC words, blends and digraphs, and vowel sounds—one phoneme at a time.

These activities will include practicing word families, word building with fun flip books, Students will be provided a variety of hands-on phonic activities that are not only fun but will give them much needed practice to become successful readers. fast-paced phonics dice games, building and sounding out words with write & Plus, including engaging touch & read match-ups.
