This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are eager to learn and most of them have already cultivated a love of reading. As we begin reading in small groups, I am struggling to find decodable texts that best suit the needs of my students.

Traditional leveled guided reading books lead students to rely on picture cues and repeated sentence patterns when they read.

This method of reading does not allow students to learn and use valuable phonics skills and word patterns that are essential as they develop and read increasingly complex texts.

Decodable readers offer students the chance to practice building the foundations necessary to make them strong readers as they enter later elementary and beyond. My students are excited to read and with your help, I will be able to offer them quality materials as they build their literacy skills!
