My Students

The students of Marine Park is 278's Debate Team are a wonderful group of diverse, highly dedicated, intelligent, and hardworking students. The debate team meets everyday at 7:15 in the morning. The group is made up of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. This is the first year our school has started a debate program. This year the students participated in five debates and demonstrated their passion for debate.

They are excited to explore the variety of different topics presented to them at debate tournaments.

They want to expand their knowledge on these topics through research. They want to develop and expand their critical thinking, listening and speaking skills to the fullest capacity. These exceptional students volunteer for an extra class each day and give up many of their Saturdays to participate in these tournaments.

My Project

The use of Chromebooks will be a daily activity in my debate class. Participating in the NYC Urban Public Forum Debate Tournaments, students are given a topic each month which they need to research and prepare cases to debate against other schools.

Chromebooks allow students to research topics to find the most current up-to-date evidence to support their cases.

This added technology would enable my students to share their work and research with one another to build the strongest argument possible. By having Chromebooks students will be able to actively research topics and focus on their argumentative writing!

By donating to our project, you will not only provide the necessary tools to enable my students to succeed at these tournaments, you will help to improve their argumentative writing and critical thinking skills. You will foster an atmosphere in which students work together to reach a common goal.
