Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Two of the greatest joys I had as a young student were reading and writing. I always loved curling up with a good book, or writing my very own story. This is something I want to share with my students today.

My students love reading!

They love sitting on the carpet while I read a great chapter book. They especially love it when they have their own copy of the book, so that they can follow along. Unfortunately, I do not have enough copies of "Dear Mr. Henshaw" for everyone to follow along. This makes it especially hard to teach them the biggest theme of the book: Writing!!!

My Project

"Dear Mr. Henshaw" is a great tool to teach writing. Not only is the main character writing letters to his favorite author, but as he continues to write, his writing talents grow! It's a great way to subtly teach children the importance, and advantage, of writing as often as possible! If all my students had a copy of the book, teaching this concept would be much easier because they would be able to see for themselves the effect of practice.

I love teaching with this book, and I can't wait for the opportunity to give each of my students their own copy to learn from. It is a classic story that they should all be exposed to, and since it serves two purposes, it's a must in every classroom!
