My students attend a residential school for the deaf. They are special needs students with great spirits. Some of the students have multiple disabilities and some are deaf/blind. The school is like a second home to them. My students have wonderful teachers who are specially trained to work with them. Everyday they come in with a big smile and ready to learn. They know that no matter what, they are special individuals who can do anything they put their mind too.
My Project
My students are deaf/hard of hearing students with low vision in addition to multiple disabilities. Lighted soccer ball, lighted football, and lighted mini ball will help them to focus so that they may be able to participate in each of the sports. In addition to a weighted soccer ball that will slow the ball down when kicked will help my students to be able to focus on kicking the ball. A lighted Frisbee with blue tooth sound capabilities will be great for my students who have some residual hearing in addition to low vision to grab there attention. A feet-ball is great for teaching balance, my students have difficulties with balance and their upper body strength, in which a feet-ball would be great to strengthen their weak areas. I have included a mat for the students to play on, which will lessen the impact of a fall to prevent injury during sports time. These items will enhance their performance in the areas of physical education because they are adapted to fit their learning needs.
