This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In the art class, students have started exploring the elements of art, like shapes, colors, line and form. This year we would love to dive into a deep exploration of Mexican culture and mask making through ceramics.

Our school is a K-5 public school located in Brooklyn, New York.

We are a truly culturally international mix from Mexico, China, Puerto Rico and Yemen, to name just a few. 94% of the students qualify for free lunch, which reflects the percentage low-income families. The families are all hard-working and dedicated to their children's success! The students are bright and always eager to learn and express their creativity!

My Project

Students will use the drape molds to create a ceramic mask in connection with their study of Mexican tradition the day of the dead. They will learn how traditions and beliefs connect to artistic expressions. Students will roll out a slab of clay and drape it over the mold so that it takes the initial hollow form they need to build their masks upon.

Your donation will elevate the quality of their artistic expression and help them to explore form in a meaningful and culturally relevant way.

Your support will serve to leave a deep impression in their minds about Mexican traditions and the connections between social studies and art.
