My Students

Our school has a long history embedded in the community we serve. Students are excited to attend a school where many of their parents and even grandparents went before them. I have an exciting opportunity to continue building a STEAM Resource program as we enter year 2! When you walk into my classroom you won't see students sitting in desks diligently taking notes, instead,​ you'll see students brainstorming ideas, drawing images, building models, testing their solution, and more! I work with all the students in my building, kindergarten through fifth grade.

My students are spunky, inquisitive, and hardworking.

"I never knew school could be this fun!" a student shouted to a group member as they were working on a STEAM project. It is moments like these that push me to ensure that my students always have opportunities for hands-on, real-life learning experiences. My students are not defined by their labels, such as gifted, ADHD, ADD, or on grade-level, but instead they step into my classroom to showoff their talents and expand their imagination. It is wonderful donors, like yourself, that can help me to provide these experiences to our youngest learners!

My Project

Students step into my room each day with their own baggage. Some haven't eaten breakfast, others didn't sleep the night before, while some struggle with focusing on the task at hand due to ADHD or ADD. However, they all have something in common. As young students they are enthralled with the world of technology and coding. They want to learn more about operating robots and discovering how to make things respond to a set of directions.

Dash offers a tangible learning experience for students as their code allows it to interact with them through its multiple sensors and performance capabilities.

Students are not limited by their prior knowledge of coding because Dash guides them through all ability levels as they learn how to code. They will code Dash through mazes, write their own music in code, expand their creative writing, and more. I have found that students with ADHD are able to focus more on the task at hand when they have tools that help them. Dash will allow them to work in small groups, thus becoming less distracted or lost with a large group of people around them. Will you help us put this new tool in our toolbox?
