This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are special because they blossom with imagination. I work in an inner-city school system with students whose eyes light up when they are learning computer science. I teach Pre-k - 8 digital literacy and computer science .

Do you remember when you were younger and you would tinker with everything?

You may have built something in your basement or taken apart something because you were curious about what it did. I want to give that opportunity to my students. All students should have the opportunity to be the next innovator. You never know who is going to create the next new piece of technology. It could be a 10-year-old kid.

My Project

Dash robots are a great way to introduce Computer Science to PreK all the way to 8th graders. Currently, I have a few and we are using them in 3rd grade to learn different Computer Science skills. In Prek they are learning how to control them by using the controller. The 8th graders applied their understanding of translation to have the dash robot go through mazes. My hope is to get a few more so that I have enough for the students to partner up. The students really love working with them at all levels. My hope is to soon have them build on them using legos to create different inventions.
