My Students

Computer Coding and Robotics in the early primary grades? You bet! As we work to prepare our students for their futures, we know that as technology advances, so too does our need for workers that can problem solve and think critically. Our youngest students can and do benefit from these skills too!

Our school is Raider Strong and prides itself on its sense of community and welcoming environment.

With approximately 240 Kindergarten through 5th grade students, my students come from the second smallest school in our district. We are a rural school and our students come from a variety of backgrounds. As Digital Learning Specialist, my goal is to help change how and what we teach to prepare our students for the ever changing world. This project will help with those goals as I work to help staff members, many of whom are uncomfortable with computer science tasks like robotics and computer coding, the possibilities that coding can bring to their classrooms and their students.

My Project

The Dash Robots will be a wonderful addition to our coding endeavors. These robots will provide a connection to what we have been learning and will allow students to be hands-on with writing code. Students will see their codes in action by watching the robot's movements and then problem solve and debug their programs as needed. These are just the hands-on tools that my students need to really understand computer coding.

Students will acquire many 21st century skills that they need to be ready for our ever changing world.

I'm excited to continue to enhance my students coding knowledge and want to ensure that I open the door to coding for all students, boys and girls, so they will be ready for our ever changing world! Bringing coding to life in an engaging and hands-in environment will truly enhance students' motivation and engagement!
