My Students

Middle school students are such an amazing stage of life. They are starting to figure out what they are good at and where they want to go in life but are still very much kids a heart. Our students love to work with their hands to make and create things. Living in a low income rural community where families don’t have the ability to expose their kids to as many experiences as students that live in wealthier cities, our student need as much exposure in our classes. STEM is a big focus at our school to bring some of those experiences to our kids. Simple robots like Dash gives our kids a chance to use technology to complete tasks and work in small groups. These two skills are going to help our kids not only figure out what they are good at but give them problem solving skills that will help them later in life.

My Project

Dash robots are a great starting point for our kids to work with robots and code. These robots are pre assembled and work with a tablet hence the learning process of the devices is shorter allowing more time to be spend on figuring out solutions to a task. We plan to use these Dash Robots with our 6th grade students in quarter classes to work through different tasks and challenges. Each time a group completes a task they will get a new task that is more challenging. At the end of the of the quarter awards will be given in different categories including Teamwork, Clean Code, and Most Points Earned to different students and groups. These Dash Robots will be a great and invaluable part of our 6th grade STEM activities and lay a foundation for the student to build on in years to come.
