My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, they are filled with laughter, and I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students are eager to learn, smart, and very spontaneous.

They like to move, and they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." While I may not be able to control their home lives, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My Project

Our goal is to create a learning community within a classroom. Students who can reflect about their process are deeply involved in their learning. Dash & Dot encourage interest in STEM fields at formative ages and across gender lines. Wonder Workshop hosts a yearly robotics competition for ages 6-12. Teams from around the world code to solve challenges issued by Wonder Workshop in the fall.

Dash & Dot arrive ready-to-use, yet they are highly customizable for creative learning applications.

Dash & Dot interact through Wonder Workshop's five mobile applications, allowing children to extend learning into the physical classroom and bring STEM concepts to life. Applications for Dash & Dot are intuitive to allow students to translate ideas into visual, picture-based coding.
