My Students

My students are excited to come to school each day and to learn from one another. They enjoy working in collaborative groups and sharing their knowledge with each other. They enjoy using their critical thinking skills to evaluate new information and integrating the arts to show their learning.

The goal of this project is to introduce my students to a cross curricular activity that will get them excited about the possibilities of tomorrow.

Using Dash & Dot in the classroom will allow my students to have cross curricular experiences in Math, Engineering, Technology, Art, and Writing. They will learn about these topics by creating challenges for the robots to complete, and then programming the Dash & Dot to successfully master these challenges. My final outcome is for students to be introduced to the world of coding in a fun and exciting way. I want my students to see that coding is everywhere, that it can be used to solve many different types of problems, and that it is a skill they can master.

My Project

My students need 2 Dash & Dot Wonder Packs, 2 launchers for Dash, and storage containers in order to enhance their STEAM learning. Dash & Dot teach creativity, problem solving, and coding to children. Students can see their code come to life in a real-world, hands-on way that engages them fully in the concepts they are learning about. These robots will motivate my students to not give up until they figure out a solution, use teamwork, and take their thinking to the next level. My students’ experiences with Dash & Dot will extend across the curriculum. They'll practice their math skills by creating geometrical shapes for Dash to recreate, write in their interactive notebooks about their successes and challenges, create art by programming Dash to roll through paint, and create & illustrate stories with Dash & Dot as the main characters. Most importantly, my students will realize making mistakes is an integral part of learning in a fun and safe way.

This project will give my students a fun, hands-on introduction to computer programming.

Coding helps students build skills that are integral to becoming 21st century learners. It provides real-world experiences with problem solving and allows students to explore their creativity. Providing this opportunity will give students a cross-curricular experience that will excite them about the opportunities of tomorrow.
