Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach dance to high school students in a high-need and at risk community. My students learn dance technique, theory and choreography. I teach my students to express themselves in a non-violent and healing way through the art of dance.

Most of my students have never ventured far from home, and do not have life experiences needed to see the bigger picture of the world beyond high school. As they are preparing to graduate high school many do not see a future for themselves because of their very limited world view. Most of my students would be the first in their families to go to college and so they are intimidated and not sure if they can compete with students from around the country.

I want to take my students across the United States to participate in the National High School Dance Festival, to open their eyes to the bigger picture. This opportunity would allow them the to meet other high school dancers from around the Nation and allow my students to see that they are good enough to continue dancing past high school. The festival also provides the opportunity for participating Juniors and Seniors to be put into contact with faculty from colleges across the United States and to participate in an audition for multiple college scholarships.

With your help I can give my students hope and provide them with the opportunity to not only take class with students from around the nation but also audition for scholarships to multiple colleges from across the nation. My students need this extra boost to show them that people care about them and their futures. Please help me help them dance their way to a bright future.
