My Students

"Dance like nobody is watching" We often say this to our students, yet to truly do this we must instill a sense of pride and confidence in our students for them to truly achieve this inexplicably beautiful moment in performance.

My dance team is one of my favorite classes to teach because they are motivated and they really seek to push themselves to the limits.

They have an incredible ability to soak up choreography like a sponge and their group dynamic is very caring and compassionate. My students are eager learners who are diverse culturally and socio-economically. Our school is a college preparatory high school in Southern California with a rigorous curriculum that is high-demanding. Students are expected to rise to the occasion academically despite social and financial obstacles that they may face. Our school is designated low socio-economic status and we are deemed a Title 1 school.

My Project

I would love to have matching jazz pants for my dance team. As it is, they have limited funds for purchasing costumes. Between all of the academic supplies, and other costs at high school, dance costumes can be a little lower on the list of priorities. Despite this adversity, I continue to advocate for my students and their needs, because their financial disparity should not keep them from looking great and feeling amazing about what they do in my dance class. They work hard and their hard work deserves recognition. I have several performances already lined up where this fantastic group of young females will wear their dance leggings, and I will be booking more performances throughout the year so that we can share and give back to our local community.

I have an amazing group of young women whose creativity and self-esteem truly blossoms throughout the semester as I have the pleasure of seeing them grow into a wonderful team.
