My Project

Our Dance Students are passionate about finding equity as young Black and Hispanic artists! Our dancers are from economically needy families and over 90% are Black or Hispanic, races dramatically unrepresented in a Classical Dance Studio.

These students come to our school's Dance Studio to learn about their self-worth, talent, and abilities unhindered by stereotypes about race or identity.

However, minority Dancers quickly see that having proper dance shoes greatly impacts class performance.

The reality is that without correctly sized or high-quality Dance shoes to use in rehearsal, our Black and Hispanic dancers cannot be competitive. Inequality.

With this class set of Dance shoes, which will be checked out to dancers in need, our diverse dancers can have professional, well-fitted shoes to equip them for success.

Our Dancers are talented and hard-working. They are learning technique and artistry, but are also learning that racially they are the minority in the world of classical dance. With the proper Dance Shoes, the teacher can teach better foot technique, athletic leaping, and more complex choreography.

Having a class set of professional dance shoes can begin to level the playing field for children of color in Dance. Many dance kids struggle with the gender identity and how they "fit" and "belong" in the world. Now, they will have the same shoes as the affluent families who are able to afford Studio Dance, an privilege that has traditionally only been accessible to America's wealthiest families.

Please give our minority dancers opportunities to shine and grow. The jazz shoes in this project are inclusive of all genders, as we are requesting a unisex jazz shoe that is the same for boy and girl dancers so that all are included and accepted in our program.
