DANCE! Dancing: Absolutely Necessary for Children's Education
My students need arts literacy and this dance program, which has been in our school for over 20 years, has been eliminated due to the fiscal crisis. Requested are 8 dance sessions for 131 students, related to performances they will attend.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Ours is a Title I 100% free lunch eligible school whose international first generation population shows the wealth of diversity. Our high needs students comprise mainstream and inclusion classes who represent the hopes of parents who have come here in search of the American dream.
For over 20 years these students have been able to participate in a dance study program that includes attending performances of world class dance companies. They have worked in school with a dance teaching artist to prepare for the performances they attend. The cost of working with dance artists in such programs are well beyond our financial reach and with the budget cuts, we have no hope of continuing this marvelous program that provides experiences critical to intellectual development of our children.
To fund this program will be to reinstate the hopes of children who are locked out of experiences that will make all the difference to their academic futures. Children who hope to advance in life must have exposure to the arts and dance is fundamental to any hopes of upward mobility.
Support for this program will allow students to broaden their view of the world and understand how the arts play a role in literacy, reading, current events, and social studies. Our children need to dance, experience its joy, learn about performances for study, and understand what the arts can do for learning. Whenever there are budget cuts, the arts seem to be expendable. The arts feed the mind and souls of the young and to ignore that will be a lost opportunity to make a positive impact on our children.
